Intro

This is a blog about our holiday to Europe in 2014. We started off our travels in Venice, where we began a cruise of the Adriatic and Aegean seas, ending in Rome. We then travelled from Rome to the Netherlands by rail, stopping in various places along the way. We are: Me - Gill, my husband - Grant, my daughter - Paula; my father - Neil and his partner - Astrid. We are South Africans, from the lovely province of Kwa-Zulu Natal. Our friends Lisa and Trevor joined us from the UK for the cruise portion of our holiday.

Bernina Express

Having had lunch in Tirano, we made our way back to the hotel and collected our luggage and then, after a final Italian gelato, we headed off to the station to catch the Bernina Express.  This was one occasion that we felt it worthwhile to reserve 1st class train tickets, as the 1st class seats on the Bernina express have huge, big panoramic windows.

So off we set on the journey of a lifetime.   Honestly, this trip, from Tirano, Italy to Chur, Switzerland is a Bucket List kind of thing.  The experience is something that will live with you forever and I am eternally grateful that I got to experience it (Thank-you Dad!).

The views are out of this world!

We made a short stop at Alp Glum, where Paula and I made a mad dash for the loo, as I have this weird phobia about weeing on a train (which I am pleased to say I conquered on this holiday, eventually!)  After an afternoon of blissful views, we arrived at Chur, where we made the quick and easy change to a train bound for Zurich.  (You literally, exit one train, take a couple of steps and board the train, waiting at that very moment, to whisk you off to Zurich, couldn't be simpler!)
